Acknowlege that you do not have the ability to live up to God's expectations on your own.   "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

Believe that Jesus is the ONLY begotten Son of God, who died and rose again for YOU so that you could have eternal life.   "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" Acts 16:31

Confess to God how you have not met his expectations, ask for forgiveness, and invite Jesus to come into your life as your SAVIOR and Example of how to live.    "If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9
